Ferrari Luce “Chassis 0” Sells for $40 Million at Auction, Buyer Won’t Receive It Until 2027

Ferrari has achieved a remarkable milestone after its charity auction raised $40 million from the sale of a car that its future owner will not even receive until next year.

The vehicle, a bespoke 2026 Ferrari Luce Tailor Made identified as “Chassis 0”, was sold at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction for exactly $40 million, making it one of the most expensive Ferraris ever sold through a charity event.
Unlike a traditional collector-car auction, the entire amount will go directly to The Ferrari Foundation, as RM Sotheby’s waived the buyer’s premium. The foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charity, plans to use the funds to support future educational programs.

The Ferrari Luce itself will return to Maranello for final preparation before being delivered to its new owner in the first quarter of 2027.

This is not simply an early production Luce with a unique paint color. Ferrari’s Tailor Made division created this special example around the theme of light, resulting in one of the most exclusive finishes ever applied to a Ferrari.

The exterior is finished in Madreperla Semi-Gloss, a special paint developed with a unique pigment that changes appearance from green to violet depending on lighting conditions and viewing angle.
Inside, Ferrari used Perla Le Mans metallic leather, created from selected Swiss hides specifically for the Tailor Made program. Details that would normally appear in black were replaced with Grigio Corvara, while the car also receives exclusive wheels, custom brake calipers, and Ferrari badges placed on an optical-white background.

Ferrari says the complexity of the paint process means every example will have a slightly different appearance, adding another layer of exclusivity to the vehicle.

The Importance of “Chassis 0”

While the bespoke styling makes this Luce unique, the real significance comes from its identity as the first production chassis of the Luce program.

Ferrari describes Chassis 0 as the opening chapter of a new era for its Tailor Made personalization division. The buyer is not only purchasing a highly customized Ferrari but also owning the first production example of a model that could become an important part of Ferrari’s future history.

The $40 million purchase gives the new owner exclusive bragging rights, provides major funding for Ferrari’s charitable initiatives, and creates a historic milestone for the Luce program.

The only question now is whether the finished Ferrari Luce will look as extraordinary in person as Ferrari’s carefully crafted description suggests when it finally arrives in 2027.
