The Lotus name is entering a new era. Lotus Technology, the China-based electric vehicle division behind the modern transformation of the iconic British brand, has completed the acquisition of 100 percent ownership of Lotus Advance Technologies, bringing the company’s various operations together under one corporate structure.
The move aims to unite the traditional Lotus sports car business from Hethel, including legendary models such as the Lotus Emira, with Lotus Tech’s expertise in electric vehicles, intelligent systems, and next-generation automotive technology.
According to Lotus, the acquisition will combine “the iconic British sports car business, engineering consultancy capabilities, and next-generation intelligent vehicle technology under one unified organization.”
For longtime Lotus fans, the company’s ownership structure has gone through many changes over the decades. The brand, famous for its lightweight engineering philosophy, precise handling, and racing-inspired technology, has experienced a complicated journey before reaching its current partnership with Chinese investment.
The new structure is expected to improve cooperation between engineering, manufacturing, product development, and commercial operations while making it easier for Lotus to accelerate future projects.
“Lotus is one brand and one strategy, and from today it becomes one business,” said Qingfeng Feng, CEO of Lotus Tech.
“Everything that makes Lotus Lotus — engineering, obsession, and discipline — is now within one organization.”
The acquisition is part of Lotus’ ambitious Focus 2030 strategy, a long-term plan designed to revive the brand globally while adapting to the rapidly changing automotive industry.
One of the biggest projects under this strategy is a new hybrid V8 supercar, currently known by its internal code name Type 135. The upcoming flagship is expected to produce nearly 986 horsepower and is planned to arrive around 2028.
The new supercar is expected to use advanced hybrid technology related to Lotus’ latest electrified platforms, including developments from the Eletre performance SUV range.
Despite its push toward electrification, Lotus has confirmed that the Emira will remain an important part of the company’s future. The brand is planning further improvements, including potentially lighter and more powerful versions of the sports car.
The merger between Lotus Tech and Lotus Advance Technologies represents more than just a corporate restructuring. It is an attempt to preserve Lotus’ legendary identity while preparing the company for the electric era.
The biggest challenge will be balancing the brand’s historic philosophy of “simplify, then add lightness” with the demands of modern performance cars that rely on advanced technology, electrification, and extreme power.
