The automotive world has once again been pushed beyond imagination with an extraordinary creation from Jetsetter Inc., an Illinois-based coachbuilding company that transformed the body of a private jet into a road-legal luxury limousine.
Known as the Limo-Jet, or officially the Learmousine, this one of a kind vehicle was created by Dan Harris and developed with Frank DeAngelo. The project took more than 12 years of engineering and development before becoming a fully functional road-going machine.
Unlike conventional custom vehicles, the Learmousine was built using the original fuselage of a Learjet 42 business aircraft. The aircraft body was mounted onto a custom steel chassis designed to handle the weight and demands of road use.
The transformation required major modifications. The aircraft’s original wings were removed and replaced with massive wheel fenders, while the rear jet engine housing was kept as part of the design. Although the original turbine engines no longer provide propulsion, the rear section serves as a visual centerpiece and a mounting location for the vehicle’s powerful audio system.
Instead of jet power, the Learmousine uses a GM 8.1-liter V8 engine producing around 400 horsepower, allowing it to comply with road regulations while still delivering enough performance to move its enormous body.
