The final practice session of the 2026 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring was interrupted by a red flag after Sergio Perez suffered a technical failure with his Cadillac.

The incident occurred shortly after Perez left the garage, following earlier checks by the Cadillac team. However, his session ended almost immediately when he reported a serious problem over team radio.

Perez informed the team that he had lost power and was experiencing an issue with the rear of the car. As he approached Turn 2 at the Hungaroring, the Cadillac slowed dramatically before coming to a complete stop on the side of the track.

Race control was forced to deploy the red flag to allow marshals to safely recover the stranded car. Smoke was seen coming from the rear of the Cadillac, with early indications suggesting a possible issue involving the rear braking system.

The failure was a major setback for Cadillac, as Perez missed valuable track time during FP3 and was unable to complete a proper qualifying simulation ahead of the important sessions later in the weekend.

After the car was removed and the track was declared safe, FP3 resumed with teams continuing their preparations for qualifying. The incident highlighted the reliability challenges Cadillac still faces as the team continues developing its Formula 1 programme.

For Perez, the problem was particularly frustrating as every lap at the Hungaroring is crucial for understanding the car’s performance and making final adjustments before qualifying and the race.
