Land Rover is preparing one of the most extreme Defender models ever created. Inspired by the legendary Dakar Rally, the British automaker is set to build the Defender Dakar, a limited-edition road-legal SUV featuring a powerful V8 engine and serious off-road upgrades.
Based on the high-performance Defender Octa, the Defender Dakar will be powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing around 626 horsepower and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. This gives the SUV incredible performance both on paved roads and in extreme off-road conditions.
Unlike a simple appearance package, the Defender Dakar receives genuine rally-inspired upgrades. Land Rover has equipped the SUV with enhanced suspension components, improved durability for harsh terrain, additional underbody protection, and specialized systems designed to handle high-speed off-road driving.

The exterior features 35-inch all-terrain tires mounted on forged 20-inch wheels, a carbon-fiber hood, additional air intakes, roof-mounted auxiliary lights, and a special “Flight Mode” designed to help control the vehicle during high-speed jumps over rough terrain.
Inside, the Defender Dakar brings a true rally-inspired atmosphere with a 2+2 seating layout, racing-style front seats, optional four-point harnesses, dedicated storage areas for off-road equipment, and an integrated air compressor for adventure use.
The model takes inspiration from the Defender D7X-R Dakar Rally program, which was developed using the Defender Octa platform and the same twin-turbo V8 engine. The competition vehicle demonstrates Land Rover’s ambition to prove the Defender can compete in one of the world’s toughest motorsport challenges.
Land Rover is expected to open orders for the Defender Dakar in 2027, with production numbers limited to maintain its exclusivity. Customers will have access to unique colors such as Dakar Sand and Yanbu Turquoise, making it one of the rarest and most capable Defender models ever produced.
With Dakar-inspired engineering, a powerful V8 engine, and extreme off-road capability, the Defender Dakar represents a new generation of road-legal rally machines — bringing motorsport technology from the desert stages to everyday roads.
