Bernd Mayländer: The Man Behind the Wheel
Since 2000, the Mercedes-AMG Safety Car has been driven by former DTM racer Bernd Mayländer.
His role is far more demanding than simply driving a fast car. During a Safety Car period, Mayländer must maintain a high pace to keep Formula 1 cars’ tires, brakes, and engines within their operating temperatures while ensuring maximum safety for drivers and marshals.
Every lap requires precision, experience, and a deep understanding of racing conditions.
