An iconic partnership in the world of Formula 1 is back on the grid. Japanese wheel manufacturer Enkei has officially announced its return to the pinnacle of motorsport as the official wheel supplier of McLaren F1 Team from the 2026 season.
It marks a new chapter in a relationship with plenty of history behind it. Enkei first joined the Formula 1 grid with McLaren in 1995, with the technical partnership continuing for decades.

During that time, the two companies worked on a range of innovations using lightweight yet highly durable magnesium alloy technology. Those developments helped McLaren build wheels capable of handling the demands of F1 competition while contributing to the team’s championship-winning campaigns.
Now, 26 years after their previous era together, Enkei and McLaren are back in business.
And the timing couldn’t be more interesting.
Formula 1 entered a completely new technical and aerodynamic era in 2026, bringing a fresh set of challenges for every component on the car. Weight efficiency, brake-temperature management and structural strength are all critical factors when it comes to extracting performance on track.
“We are extremely proud to be collaborating with McLaren once again in this new era of Formula 1. The experience and technical expertise we have developed over many years at the highest level of motorsport will provide a strong foundation in supporting the team’s performance on track,” said an Enkei management representative.
From McLaren’s F1 Car to Your Road Car

The Enkei-McLaren relationship has never been confined to the racetrack. Their collaboration also left a lasting mark on the wider automotive world.
One of Enkei’s best-known products, the RPF1, was developed with technology and design inspiration drawn from the twin-spoke racing wheels used by McLaren in Formula 1 during the late 1990s.
The RPF1 went on to become one of Enkei’s most recognisable wheels, demonstrating how ideas born in the brutal environment of Formula 1 can eventually find their way onto road-going cars.
Now Enkei is heading back into the F1 paddock for the 2026 season, reuniting with McLaren at a time when the sport has entered one of its biggest regulatory changes in years.
For McLaren, bringing Enkei back is more than simply reconnecting with an old partner. The partnership is part of the team’s effort to strengthen its technical package as competition at the sharp end of the grid becomes increasingly fierce.
For Enkei, meanwhile, Formula 1 provides another opportunity to push its wheel technology at the highest level of motorsport and develop solutions for a completely new generation of racing cars.

There is something particularly cool about this reunion because Enkei and McLaren have a history that goes well beyond a simple supplier relationship.
Their racing partnership helped create technology that eventually filtered down into the enthusiast world, with the RPF1 becoming one of the most recognisable products to carry that motorsport DNA.
And with Formula 1’s 2026 regulations ushering in an entirely new era, it’ll be fascinating to see where Enkei takes its technology this time around.
At F1 level, a wheel isn’t simply a wheel. Every gram matters, temperature control matters, structural integrity matters, and every tiny detail can have an impact on the car’s overall performance.
After 26 years, Enkei and McLaren aren’t simply revisiting the past.
They’re bringing an old partnership into a very different Formula 1.
