Lewis Hamilton delivered an impressive performance during Free Practice 2 (FP2) of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, leading a Ferrari one-two finish at the Hungaroring. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion set the fastest lap of the session with a time of 1:18.729, proving Ferrari’s strong pace on the technical Hungarian circuit.
Charles Leclerc completed Ferrari’s dominant FP2 result by finishing second with a lap time of 1:18.877, only 0.148 seconds behind his teammate. The performance highlighted Ferrari’s competitiveness ahead of the crucial qualifying session.
Lando Norris secured third place for McLaren with a best lap of 1:19.228, finishing 0.499 seconds behind Hamilton. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen placed fourth for Red Bull Racing with a time of 1:19.421, ending the session 0.692 seconds away from the Ferrari leader.
Ferrari’s strong performance became the main story of FP2, with both Hamilton and Leclerc showing excellent pace through the slow-speed corners of the Hungaroring. Red Bull Racing, on the other hand, appeared to face a bigger challenge in matching Ferrari’s one-lap speed, although Verstappen remained within reach of the leaders.
George Russell finished fifth for Mercedes with a lap time of 1:19.662, followed by Isack Hadjar in sixth place for Racing Bulls. Hadjar continued to impress by placing ahead of several experienced drivers, while teammate Liam Lawson secured seventh position.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri ended FP2 in eighth place with a time of 1:20.101, ahead of Nico Hülkenberg and Arvid Lindblad, who completed the top ten.

Outside the top ten, several key drivers were still searching for their best performance. Kimi Antonelli finished 13th, while Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez ended the session in 19th and 20th positions.
Franco Colapinto finished at the bottom of the FP2 timing sheet after recording a best lap of 1:22.531, 3.802 seconds slower than Hamilton’s benchmark.
The FP2 results suggest that Ferrari could be a serious contender for pole position at the Hungaroring. However, with the gaps between the top teams still relatively close, qualifying is expected to bring another intense battle between Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull Racing, and Mercedes.
