Franco Colapinto caused the second red flag of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend after crashing at the final corner of the Hungaroring during Free Practice 2 (FP2).

The Alpine driver was pushing hard while trying to improve his lap time when he suddenly lost control of the car at the final corner. The rear of the Alpine became unstable as Colapinto struggled for traction on corner exit, sending the car wide before it made contact with the barriers.

Race control immediately deployed the red flag to stop the session, allowing marshals to clear debris and safely recover the damaged Alpine from the track.

Fortunately, Franco Colapinto was able to climb out of the car safely and was not injured. The Alpine team then began inspecting the car to assess the damage and determine whether repairs could be completed before the next session.

The final corner of the Hungaroring is a crucial section of the lap, as drivers need maximum rear grip and a strong exit to carry speed onto the main straight. Any loss of traction in this area can quickly lead to a loss of control, especially when drivers are pushing the limits during practice sessions.

Colapinto’s crash interrupted FP2 and added another challenge for Alpine as the team continues to search for the best setup and performance during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
