Charles Leclerc’s F1 Spanish GP Madrid Participation Still Uncertain After 60G Monza Crash

Charles Leclerc’s participation in the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid remains uncertain after the Ferrari driver was forced to retire from the Italian Grand Prix following a heavy crash at Monza.

The Monegasque driver must undergo additional medical checks to confirm that he is fully fit before returning to the cockpit. Leclerc revealed that the examinations are expected to take place on the night after the race and the following day.

The additional tests are necessary to ensure there are no hidden effects from the impact before he competes in Madrid.

“I think there are still quite a few additional checks that we need to do, probably tonight and tomorrow, to make sure I’m really okay for Madrid,” Leclerc said, as quoted by Crash.

Although Leclerc remains confident that he should be available for the next race, he admitted that caution is the priority after such a heavy accident.

“It should be fine, but it’s better to be safe than sorry,” said the Ferrari driver.

Vision Problems After a 60G Impact

Leclerc avoided serious injuries from the crash, which generated an estimated 60G impact. However, he experienced temporary vision problems shortly after climbing out of the car.

His right eye became the biggest concern immediately after the incident, although the issue later improved.

“I’m okay. It was just my vision that was a little bit problematic at first. My right eye wasn’t giving me very good vision,” Leclerc explained.

“Everything is fine now. That was the thing I was most worried about when I got out of the car,” he added.

After his vision returned to normal, Leclerc felt pain in several areas of his body, which he considered a normal reaction after such a violent impact.

Ferrari Lost a Major Opportunity at Monza

Leclerc’s race ended on the second lap of the Italian Grand Prix while he was fighting Oscar Piastri for a potential podium finish.

Entering the final corner, the rear of his Ferrari suddenly lost grip, causing him to lose control and crash into the barriers. The race was briefly suspended to allow repairs to the damaged track barriers.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Leclerc admitted that he had already felt something was wrong with the car before the crash.

“I didn’t feel the car was completely okay. I lifted off the throttle, then a lot of power came back again and I lost control of the car,” Leclerc said.

The incident added to Ferrari’s disappointing home race. Before Leclerc’s crash, the team had already faced a difficult moment when Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton battled closely during the opening lap.

The two Ferrari cars ran side by side approaching the first chicane, with Hamilton being forced onto the gravel at the exit of Turn 2. The mistake dropped him from fourth on the grid to 10th place.

Ferrari arrived at Monza with power unit upgrades hoping to deliver a stronger performance in front of their home fans. However, the result fell well below expectations.

Leclerc Ready to Move Forward

Despite the frustration, Leclerc is determined to put the disappointment behind him and focus on the upcoming race in Madrid.

“This is very frustrating, but this is where we are now. I cannot change the result. So I have to look forward and hopefully bounce back in Madrid,” he said.

Leclerc’s situation highlights how fragile Ferrari’s hopes can be during a tightly contested F1 season. The Monza crash was not only a missed opportunity for valuable championship points but also another reminder that Ferrari still needs to improve its overall package, especially in terms of consistency and reliability. If Leclerc is cleared to race in Madrid, the pressure will be on Ferrari to provide a more stable car and avoid another weekend where potential success slips away due to technical issues or unpredictable performance.
