Toyota has issued a safety recall for approximately 508,000 units of the 2025–2026 Toyota Camry in the United States due to a software defect that may cause the instrument panel display to remain blank when the vehicle is started.
The issue affects vehicles equipped with a 7.0-inch digital combination meter, where a software error can prevent the display from turning on properly. As a result, drivers may be unable to see important information such as the speedometer, fuel level, warning indicators, and other vehicle status information.
Toyota Camry Models Affected by the Recall
The recall specifically applies to Camry models equipped with the smaller 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The affected trims include:
- Toyota Camry LE
- Toyota Camry SE
- Toyota Camry Nightshade
Higher-end trims such as the Camry XLE and Camry XSE are not included in the recall because they use a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument display, which is not affected by this software issue.
Software Defect Causes Instrument Panel to Go Blank
According to Toyota, a software malfunction may prevent the instrument cluster from activating after the vehicle is turned on. When this happens, the driver could lose access to critical visual information, including vehicle speed, fuel level, warning lights, turn signal indicators, hazard light status, and other alerts.
The loss of these displays could increase the risk of an accident, especially if drivers are unable to monitor important vehicle information while driving.
Free Software Update Required at Toyota Dealers
To fix the problem, Toyota dealers will update the instrument cluster software free of charge. Unlike some newer over-the-air software updates, this recall repair requires owners to schedule an appointment at an authorized Toyota dealership for the module to be reprogrammed.
Toyota is expected to begin sending official recall notification letters to affected owners in early October 2026.
Owners can check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through Toyota’s recall portal or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall database.
